Selenssa looks at ingredients and performance — helping you find products that meet our cleaner standards without compromising on results.
"Clean" is not a regulated term, so Selenssa defines it openly. Every skincare, haircare and makeup product is assessed ingredient by ingredient against our versioned ingredient ratings, covering allergy potential, endocrine concerns and cancer-linked classifications from published sources. The result is a Selenssa Score out of 100 with a clear Safe, Caution or Avoid band, and you can read the full scoring methodology including how it has changed over time.
A gentle formula is only useful if it works. Ninety percent of the score reflects the formulation itself; the remaining ten percent reflects consolidated customer reviews from UK retailers, so products that irritate or underperform in real use are marked down. Where a product's full ingredient list has not been confirmed by the manufacturer, the score is shown as estimated rather than presented as verified.
Most people do not shop by ingredient — they shop by problem. Selenssa covers concerns across skincare, haircare and makeup, from anti-ageing and acne and breakouts to dry and damaged hair. For each one we publish only three recommendations — Entry, Best Overall and Luxury — so the choice stays manageable. Browse all beauty concerns.
Selenssa is an independent buying guide, not a retailer. Scores are produced before any commercial link is attached, sources are recorded per product, and brands can dispute a score in public. You can also compare saved products side by side, or read the Selenssa story.
More detail on the scoring model is in how Selenssa scores products, and you can browse beauty products by skin, hair and makeup concern.
