Who we are

Selenssa is an independent beauty buying guide published at selenssa.com. Selenssa is the data controller for the personal information described in this policy. If you have any questions about this Privacy Policy or your personal information, please contact us at info@selenssa.com. You can also use our contact form.

What we collect and why

  • Product searches and analyses. The product names and photos you submit are used to produce your Selenssa Score and to improve our product database. Photos are processed to read the ingredient list and are not linked to your identity unless you are signed in.
  • Account information. If you create an account, we store your email address, an optional display name and the products, routines and notes you choose to save. This is used only to provide My Shelf and your saved routines.
  • Newsletter information. See the section below.
  • Shopping links. When you use a Buy Now or offer link we record that a click happened, which product and retailer it related to, the page it came from and a random session identifier. This is not linked to your email address and is used to understand which recommendations are useful.
  • Technical information. Our hosting and database providers process standard technical data such as IP address and request logs in order to serve and secure the site.

Email marketing and The Selenssa Edit

If you subscribe to The Selenssa Edit, we collect your email address together with information about when and how you subscribed. We use this information to send you Selenssa beauty recommendations, product reviews, offers and other Selenssa communications.

We use your information for these communications with your consent. You can withdraw your consent at any time by using the unsubscribe link in our emails.

Selenssa does not sell, rent or share newsletter subscriber information with third parties for their own marketing, advertising, profiling or commercial purposes. We do not upload subscriber email addresses — raw or hashed — to advertising platforms such as Meta or Google, to affiliate networks, or to any customer relationship or marketing automation platform.

We may use essential technology and infrastructure providers to host, secure or process information solely on our behalf where this is necessary to operate Selenssa. These providers act as service providers/data processors and are not permitted to use subscriber information for their own marketing purposes.

We retain your subscription information while you remain subscribed. If you unsubscribe, we may retain limited suppression information so that we can respect your request not to receive further marketing.

We record the exact consent wording you agreed to, the version of that wording, and the date, time and page of your signup, so that we can evidence your consent. We only ask for your email address — no name, address, phone number or beauty profile is required to subscribe, and no account is needed.

Lawful bases

  • Consent — newsletter marketing emails.
  • Contract — providing your account, My Shelf and saved routines.
  • Legitimate interests — running, securing and improving the site, including product analysis and understanding which recommendations people find useful.

Who processes your information

Selenssa is built and hosted on the Lovable platform, which provides the website hosting and the managed database (built on Supabase) where our data is stored. Product analysis text and photos are processed by our AI analysis provider through the Lovable AI gateway. These companies act as processors on our instructions and are not permitted to use your information for their own marketing purposes. We do not use any third-party email marketing platform, customer relationship platform or advertising platform for subscriber data.

How long we keep information

Newsletter records are kept while you are subscribed. If you unsubscribe we keep a minimal suppression record indefinitely so that you are not added again by mistake. Account data is kept until you ask us to delete your account. Click records are kept in aggregate form for as long as they remain useful for reporting.

Cookies and tracking

Selenssa does not run Google Analytics, Meta Pixel or any advertising or cross-site tracking technology. We store a random session identifier in your browser so that important actions, such as choosing a concern or clicking a shopping link, can be counted without recording your name or email address. We also store your sign-in session if you have an account. Some shopping links are affiliate links, which means the retailer may set their own cookies once you arrive on their website — that is covered by the retailer's own privacy policy. Affiliate partners never receive your email address.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR you have the right to access your information, to have it corrected or erased, to restrict or object to how we use it, to data portability, and to withdraw consent at any time. To unsubscribe from The Selenssa Edit, use the unsubscribe link in any email. For anything else, email us at info@selenssa.com or use our contact form and we will respond within one month.

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information you can complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
